RULES AND Classing

ELIGIBLE VEHICLES

A Rallycross event hosted by North Texas Rallycross is open to any four-wheeled, mass-produced passenger vehicle which passes safety inspection. Side-by-sides, Crosskarts, and Tube-Frame vehicles are eligible to compete in X class, with appropriate safety devices, after passing safety inspection. In general, mass produced vehicles, no matter how modified, do not quality for X class. Contact us for exceptions.

VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION

All safety points below must be passed before a vehicle will be allowed on course. The safety steward has the ability and right to deem any single vehicle unsafe for participation in an event. If a vehicle fails to pass inspection, paid entry fees will be refunded.

  1. Vehicle may not be taller than it is wide, or be taller than 62 inches, from level ground to the highest point of the roof. This does not apply to vehicles in Class X.

  2. A roll cage is highly recommended in every vehicle, although not required. Class X vehicles must have sufficient rollover protection. ‘Sufficient’ will be at the discretion of the safety steward.

  3. All loose items, in the passenger compartment and storage areas, must be removed from the vehicle. Latching compartments such as a glove box or center console do not need to be emptied. Handheld items, including cell phones and water bottles, are considered loose items and must be contained in a latching compartment while on course.

  4. Convertible vehicles, unless equipped with rollover protection, must have a firmly secured hardtop. ‘Style Bars’ will not be considered rollover protection.

  5. Wheels must be safely affixed to the vehicle. All studs, nuts, and bolts must be present and correctly installed. Snap-on hubcaps must be removed. Aluminum lug nuts may not be used. Compact spare wheels may not be used.

  6. Tires must be in good condition, with no cords or belts showing. Tires may not have bubbles or cracks in the sidewalls, and must be manufactured within the last 10 years. Tires designated for use on recreational vehicles or motorcycles are not allowed on passenger vehicles.

  7. Seat lap and shoulder belts are required in all passenger vehicles. Belts must be safely installed with appropriate attachment locations and hardware. Competitors and passengers are required to wear seat belts whenever a vehicle is on course. Harness shoulder belts should be mounted between horizontally from the seat back, to 20 degrees down from horizontal.

  8. Brakes and, if equipped, clutch should have adequate pedal feel with adequate fluid in the master cylinder(s). There should be no hydraulic fluid leaks, clutch should fully disengage, and brakes should be operable by the pedal at all four wheels. Any vehicle competing in X class without 4-wheel braking should contact the organization prior to attending an event.

  9. Steering wheels must be of good quality. Aftermarket steering wheels should not easily flex in any direction. Steering wheel “spinner” knobs are not permitted.

  10. The throttle pedal must have a smooth motion with no binding. Throttle return should be quick and positive. If applicable, throttle cables should have slack at idle.

  11. Wheel bearings, shock absorbers, steering, and suspension must all be in good working order, with no play on any axis.

  12. No excessive fluid leaks should be present

  13. Windows are not required, but any occupant wearing an open-face helmet must have their window up. Any vehicle competing in X class must have windows, window nets, or arm restraints installed to keep arms inside the vehicle in a rollover.

  14. All batteries must be secured to make sure they will stay in place. Wet cell batteries, if moved from their original location, must be equipped with leak-proof caps and enclosed in a marine-style box.

  15. Helmets must be worn by all drivers and passengers on course. Helmets must be in good condition, fit properly, and have adequate peripheral vision. All helmets must meet the current, or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation Standards SA, M, or K. (SA2020, SAH2020, SA2015, SAH2015, SA2010, SAH2010, M2020, M2015, M2010, K2020, K2015, K2010). All occupants of any X class vehicle must wear a closed-face helmet with the visor down.

  16. Windshields must be properly secured. Cracking may only be in the outside layer of a laminated windshield. Cracks that may impair a driver’s vision will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

  17. All vehicles must have adequate forward lighting, as well as tail lamps, in order to compete in low light events.

  18. The use of nitrous oxide is prohibited.


Classing

CAM class is for american muscle cars - Front engine, rear wheel drive. this is a modified class, not divided into S, P, and M.

This makes for a total of 11 classes. cam and X, plus front, rear. and all wheel drive classes divided into stock, prepared, and modified. This is abbreviated as sf for stock front wheel drive, and so forth.


Points system

At every event a participant attends, they will receive 2 points for the singular class they register in, with the opportunity to earn more depending on what place they finish in the class.

1st place will receive 3 additional points, 2nd place - 2 points, 3rd place - 1 point.

These points are attached to the class you register in and cannot transfer between classes.
